I have collected original data on events of provision of goods and services by criminal organizations in Mexican municipalities. The collection followed a systematic search of more than 90 local and national news outlets in Spanish using the Nexis digital archive. Drawing on previous data collection strategies, I employed an extensive list of stemmed keywords associated with organized crime and the provision of goods and services. The search yielded 1,448 articles, which I manually reviewed, excluding press releases, opinion pieces, and stories lacking clear information on the actor, action, and target involved in each event. Following the coding criteria, I identified 131 distinct events—122 of which occurred in 2020—across 53 municipalities. To strengthen the validity of the dataset, I cross-referenced these findings with ACLED, which recorded a consistent subset of similar events.

I webscrapedall publicly available speeches and press conferences that the current (2024-2030) Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has given since she took office in 2024. The data includes over 400 texts that have been tokenized and prepared for natural language processing and text analysis.
This report article describes the data and summarizes the results of a preliminary analysis.
I have also collected and processed all conferences and speeches from former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the analysis is in progress. Please feel free to contact me for access to additional resources.
I used the NYT API to query for and scrape all articles on Mexico and Mexican affairs in this outlet. The data can be used to understand the way Mexico is framed in American media channels and to identify the main topics covered when reporting on Mexican affairs.
